There’s a number of thing in my life that make me smile, but a simple face mask does the trick.

Not only does it leave my skin looking radiant, but I feel like a little pampering does wonders for the soul. I’ve been using some of my favorite masks more often lately, but I would like to take a stab at creating my own sometime – especially ones that include four ingredients or less!

After a little research, here are are three easy-to-make face mask recipes to make your own:

Moisturizing Avocado Mask

Avocados and bananas are natural moisturizers that are rich in antioxidants which can help prevent dry skin, fine lines and wrinkles. Avocado also possess a high amount of oleic acid which is good for reducing facial redness and irritation. The vitamin A content in bananas helps to restore lost moisture and repair damaged, dull, and dry skin. Win win.

½ avocado
½ very ripe banana
1 tablespoon olive oil

Mash all ingredients and mix well in a small bowl. As soon as your ready, apply your mask and leave on for 20 minutes. Pat your face with a damp towel to remove.

Cleansing Yogurt Mask

Yogurt? Yes, that’s right. Yogurt contains lactic acid which can help dissolve dead skin and debris that accumulates in the pores as well as aid in shrinking pores so that your skin looks healthier and younger. Lactic acid can also smooth rough or dry skin and may even help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. However, yogurt doesn’t stop there. Yogurt also has anti-bacterial properties and is rich in zinc. Both of these characteristics can help prevent and clear up breakouts.

¼ cup of plain yogurt
½ teaspoons of cinnamon
2 teaspoons of raw honey

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Once prepared, massage into your skin in a thick layer. Leave on for fifteen minutes between washing off and lightly patting dry.

Acne Reducing Oatmeal + Honey Mask

Honey and oatmeal are are superb at providing acne relief and possibly even preventing acne. Oats contain anti-inflammatory properties which are great for soothing irritated skin and reducing redness. Honey also helps open your pores so that the exfoliating properties of oats can clean them out. In addition, honey possess antibacterial and antioxidant properties. Yogurt which is also awesome for your skin (see the benefits of the Avocado Mask above).

¼ cup oats
2 teaspoons of yogurt
2 teaspoons of honey
2 teaspoons of olive oil

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Place all ingredients into a food processor and blend well. Let ingredients sit for 8-10 minutes in order to allow the oatmeal to soften. Apply to a clean face, and scrub in a circular motion for 2-3 minutes. Note: if you have sensitive skin, don’t scrub – just leave on your face. Wear as a mask for 10 minutes to let your skin absorb the nutrients. Remove with a warm, damp cloth and pat dry.
